Golden Ice night at Wings Stadium Saturday, K-Wings hosting the Bloomington Prairie Thunder. Bloomington coming in at last in the league, taking on third place Kalamazoo.
The home team was in its Ronald McDonald uni’s – I mean, they were dressed up like Ronald McDonald! I mean, full-on yellow jersey with a tie and the tricked out red and white striped sleeves, red domes on their grapes-Mc Donalds! They did however, stop just shy of the full face paint and wigs. I mean, it was like a full team of Ronald McDonald’s out there – it was like you found a cheat code in some hockey video game and you got play a whole team of mascots and you picked a whole team of Ronald McDonalds! Now, I’m sure there was some money made for a charity or some worthy cause of course, but couldn’t you have just made the donation to charity without making the whole hockey team dress up as your corporate logo? I mean, wouldn’t a nice, big shoulder patch or something have done the trick? But the whole freakin’ team decked out like that? Can you just imagine the trash-talking from the Prairie Thunder? “Hey Ronnie, can I get some fries to go with that shake?” And the poor players – “I played hockey for Notre Dame and now I’m dressed like Ronald McDonald!” So, uh, anyway, they lost the game 4-2 and can you blame ‘em – they were dressed like Ronald McDonald!
On Wednesday the McWings hit the road to face Port Huron.
