Sports Update for Friday June 5

It was tough period to watch as the Red Wings had a 2-1 lead and watched it disappear in the second stanza. The Penguins shelled Detroit for 3 goals in the second including Sidney Crosby’s tiebreaker.
The Penguins added another and went on to tie the series at 2 games apiece. Game 5 is Saturday night back at the Joe then Tuesday things switch back to Pittsburgh on Tuesday with all your coverage on 1660 The Fan.

On the diamond the Cubs and Braves took a rain check in Atlanta last night and will make up the game June 22.

In Chicago Jason Giambi had a 3 run homer to help The A’s shut out the White Sox 7-0.

A career milestone for Randy Johnson. The San Francisco Giants win over Washington 5-1 gave the Big Unit his 300th win. Johnson becomes the 24th pitcher to reach the 300 win mark.

The NBA finals got started last night in Los Angeles and the Lakers breezed to a 100-75 win over Orlando. Kobe Bryant tossed in 40 points. The lakers are trying to win their 15th NBA title and Coach Phil Jackson’s 10 which would move him past coaching legend Red Auerbach.

The Tigers looking to avoid a sweep at the hands of Boston Thursday. The Dontrelle Willis feel-good comeback story doesn’t feel so good lately. Decent start for Dontrelle, Tigers out to a 3-nothing lead in the second, but one inning later the wheels come off
Jim Leyland has some words with the ump and he gets tossed too. Tigers stop the bleeding but can’t close the gap, 6-3 Boston as they sweep Detroit. Adding injury to insult, Miguel Cabrera pulled his hamstring; he’ll be evaluated today. Justin Verlander’s on the mound when they host the Angels tonight at 6:45 on 590 KZO.

The West Michigan Mayhem professional women’s football team will seek to retain their unblemished record on the road Saturday – the 5-0 Mayhem will be visiting the Fort Wayne Flash, whom they beat 41-nothing earlier this season.
