Detroit, MI (Sports Network) - The Detroit Lions and free-agent quarterback Daunte Culpepper have agreed to terms on a contract Sunday.
Detroit coach Rod Marinelli confirmed the deal after the Lions dropped a 27-23 game to Chicago on Sunday to move to 0-8 on the season. Detroit is now the last team in the NFL without a victory as the previously winless Cincinnati Bengals knocked off the Jacksonville Jaguars Sunday.
"We have agreed to terms on a contract with Daunte Culpepper, pending completion of a non-orthopedic physical," said Marinelli in his post-game press conference. "We still need to work out final details. He is not signed yet."
Culpepper, 31, most recently played for the Oakland Raiders in 2007, when he appeared in seven games for the club. He threw only five touchdown passes in that span for a quarterback rating of 78.0.
The Lions have struggled at the quarterback position this season, as Dan Orlovsky has taken over for injured starter Jon Kitna, who was lost for the season. Orlovsky has five touchdown passes and four interceptions in seven appearances and has lost his first four career starts.
