Lions Fall Flat Again

by Dan Cash

Calvin Johnson caught 2 passes for 154 yards but those were the only passes he caught all day in a 28-21 loss to the Houston Texans. The Lions fell behind 21-0 in a 1st half that made just about everyone miss Roy Williams. Lions Head Coach Rod Marinelli says he isn’t sure why they started slowly.

The Lions fought back in the 2nd half mostly on the strength of Calvin Johnson’s 96-yard-touchdown and Kevin Smith’s 61-yards-rushing and TD.

Smith’s touchdown came when the Lions were down 21-3…of course ending in Smith jumping into the opposing crowd…so stunned at what was happening…the fans stared blankly until Smith realized his mistake. While the Lions didn’t find a win, they might have found a quarterback and a leader in Dan Orlovsky.

Orlovsky finished 12-for-25 with 265 yards passing and a touchdown on the afternoon. Up next the Lions come home to Ford Field this Sunday for a showdown with the Washington Redskins. Coverage begins at Noon Sunday on 590 KZO.
