The Red Wings hung tough at home but wound up with a terminal case of the Blues as St. Louis muscled out a 5-4 win in Detroit.
Detroit tied the game with less than five minutes but the Blues broke it 36 seconds later.
The Wings who have the Central Division sewn up and are chasing san Jose to regain the overall league best record are off until Sunday afternoon when they take on Minnesota.
