Western Michigan University will have representation at the annual NFL Combine for the third time in four seasons when Louis Delmas participates this coming week. The event, held in Indianapolis, gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and continues through Tuesday, Feb. 24. Each group of athletes will have selected days to conduct interview and go through a series of work outs.
Delmas, who finished his career at WMU with 310 tackles and 12 interceptions, is currently rated as the top safety according to NFL.com's Mike Mayock. He was a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection, including earning a first team nod in 2008, and received honorable mention for Phil Steele's All-America. Delmas is also coming off a four-tackle performance in the prestigious Senior Bowl held in Alabama last month. Delmas will likely report to Indianapolis on Sunday and will conduct interviews with the media on Monday. Tuesday will be his day to shine as he will work out and go through a series of drills with the rest of the defensive backs.
The defensive backs will be split into two groups (Groups 10 & 11) with one working out during the morning session and the other working out during an afternoon session. The North Miami Beach, Fla., native is the second Bronco in as many seasons (fourth under head coach Bill Cubit) to be invited, following offensive lineman James Blair after the 2007 campaign. Two years prior Greg Jennings (Green Bay Packers) and Tony Scheffler (Denver Broncos) each competed in the NFL Combine following the 2005 season.
