
In collegiate hockey, Western Michigan forward Greg Squires has been named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Month for the month of January on Tuesday afternoon. Squires, a freshman right winger from White Plains, N.Y., had a point in seven of WMU’s 10 games in the month of January. He finished the month with two goals and six assists for eight points to help the Broncos to a 4-4-2 record, with five of the points coming on the power play. Squires had assisted on goals in five straight from WMU’s win over Alabama-Huntsville on Jan. 16, to its 6-5 loss to Northern Michigan on Jan. 30. Squires currently ranks tied for seventh in the CCHA in freshman scoring with 16 points off of four goals and 12 assists. Western Michigan is in action this weekend at Nebraska-Omaha with both games starting at 8:05 p.m. EST.
