After slow start Red Wings roll Blackhawks at Wrigley

The NHL Winter Classic brought hockey to Wrigley Field on New Year’s Day – over 40,000 were on hand to watch the Red Wings tussle with the Blackhawks. It looked like it was headed for a blowout for the home team, with Chicago steamrolling to a 3-1 lead out of the gate – it wasn’t ‘til the second period the Red Wings got their poise back with three unanswered goals. The high-powered Detroit offense wasn’t done there, tacking on two more in the third before Chicago salvaged a late meaningless score – The Red Wings embarrass the Blackhawks in the Cubs’ house 6-4. That’s back-to-back losses to Detroit for a Blackhawks team that had won 9 straight previously. Next up the Red Wings visit Minnesota tomorrow evening at 7:40 on 1660 The Fan.
