Once a Lions Fan...

by Larry Long

A feeling you may be familiar with is sitting down in your recliner, a beverage likely containing some type of grains and the thought that maybe this will be the year as you watch Jason Hanson break the champagne bottle on another season.

Granted this year that recliner was probably not as comfortable, but are you going to be in that same spot next September? The answer is most likely yes. I'm not what you would describe as a "Die Hard" sports fan but my love of football goes back to childhood. In that time I've seen the Lions have some dandy years and even the mediocre years were fun as they were many times at least in the playoff hunt until the end. This year they were out at week 11.

I for one am convinced that a great turn-around will happen at some point however far down the road. Many teams have gone from doormat to player with the right ingredients. A prime example being this years Miami Dolphins.

Now it comes to looking for that high draft pick that can make it all come together. Which brings us full circle as the draft season ends and the free agents are no longer free and coaches have made the annual shuffle to helm new teams.

We timidly ease back in our chairs, open the first of what could be a few cold ones and watch Jason Hanson set the ball on the tee and think to ourselves, "Could this be the year?"
