Maryland Survives Michigan In Big Ten/ACC Challenge

by Dan Cash

The Michigan Wolverines led 35-29 at halftime and it appeared they were on their way to their 2nd win over a prominent national opponent before Maryland surged to begin the 2nd half Thursday.

The Terrapins used a balanced scoring effort that saw 4 starters enter double figures led by Greivis Vasquez' 23 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists to take down the Wolverines 75-70 Wednesday in College Park, Maryland. Manny Harris led the Wolverines with 15 in the loss while DeShawn Sims finished with 12 points and 7 rebounds falling short of his usual double-double.

The big story on the evening was the rebound disparity as the Terrapins physical play was too much for the Wolverines in a 43-26 board advantage. The loss was part of an overall sluggish night for the Big Ten in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge with Michigan State and Indiana also falling to ACC teams on the evening.

The ACC remained undefeated against the Big Ten in the Challenge winning 6 of 11 games in the series this season.
