The Broncos were firing on all cylinders on both sides of the ball in their down-to-the-wire 23-17 upset over Illinois of the Big Ten at Ford Field Saturday, a win that’s sure to sweeten the bowl game pot for an 8-and-2 Western team. Tim Hiller continued to amaze, putting up 301 yards and 2 TDs, while Jamarko Simmons led all receivers with 11 catches for 174 yards and a touchdown. The defense rose to the occasion as well, pressuring Illini QB Juice WIlliams all day, notching two key interceptions and closing it out with a game-saving 4th & 10 stand.
It could end up being a very costly win for the Broncos though: Branden Ledbetter, Schneider Julien, Brandon West, Louis Delmas and Juan Nunez all left the game with injuries. The Broncos close out the home season next weekend when they welcome Toledo to Waldo Stadium Saturday.
