(Allen Park, MI) -- The winless Lions finished up practice at their Allen Park headquarters and found out that Daunte Culpepper will be their starting quarterback in Carolina on Sunday. Dan Orlovsky will not have surgery on his injured right thumb but will probably miss his second straight game.
Same for center Dominic Raiola, as Andy McCollum will get his second start at center. Both defensive ends are injured, Jared DeVries had surgery on his broken hand and Dwayne White is down with a calf injury, they'll both miss Sunday's game in Carolina. Cornerback Keith Smith has a hamstring and groin injury, he's questionable. They did re-sign running back Aveion Cason to handle punt returns and waived wide receiver Brandon Middleton.
Also, late this afternoon, the Lions claimed wide receiver Adam Jennings off waivers. Jennings, who was with the Atlanta Falcons, could return punts for the Lions against Carolina. To make room for Jennings, the Lions released quarterback Drew Henson.
This move, though, doesn't mean Henson's days in Detroit are over. The Lions would like to bring Henson back for a full off-season, which means they'd like to re-sign him before the regular season is over. The 7-and-2 Panthers are installed as 14-point favorites, as a matter of fact, the records of Detroit's next four opponents is a combined 27-and-9.
