Lions Don't Sellout For First Time Since 2002

by Dan Cash

Anyone questioning Detroit Lions fans loyalty should be kicked out of the room. Fans went the entire Matt Millen era selling out every single game at Ford Field.

Ford Field's consecutive sellout streak ended Thursday.

5000 seats still remain for the Detroit Lions game with the Washington Redskins this week. It's a streak that has been threatened every home game this season...ending with the NFL granting a 24-hour-sellout extension so companies could front the money for the remaining tickets.

In the first 2 cases the tactic worked...this time the NFL was not going to grant the 24-hour-extension meaning Detroit, Saginaw/Flint, Toledo and Lansing will have the Detroit-Washington game blacked out on their televisions.

Some Lions fans barely remember the days of consistant Silverdome blackouts in the 90's. It wasn't that the Lions were that bad it was just difficult to always fill an 80,000 seat stadium.

The Lions and Redskins are live on 590 KZO Sunday with coverage beginning at Noon with Dan Miller and Jim Brandstatter. The Lions tell 1660 THE FAN that Kalamazoo should not be affected by the blackout.

Only broadcast markets within 75 miles of Ford Field will be blacked out.
