It's Official: WMU-CMU Week Is Here...

by Dan Cash

...and it means something. In 2006 the Western Michigan Broncos were blown out of Mt. Pleasant 31-7 amidst a blinding rainstorm. Last season in Kalamazoo the Broncos made a valiant comeback, only to fall short on a 1-yard-run by Chippewa Quarterback Dan LeFevour as time ran out.

2008 is a different story however as the Chippewas enter the game 4-2 with losses to Georgia and Purdue on their schedule this season.

The Broncos on the other hand are having what amounts to a historic season in Kalamazoo, winning 6 straight after falling to Nebraska in the season opener.

This rivalry is bitter. Last season Jamarko Simmons was kicked out in the 1st half for a less than flagrant foot shove to a Central Michigan defender, who refused to let go of his leg. That will certainly be a topic of conversation all week among the fans and the media.

At MAC Media Day at Ford Field Jamarko Simmons made it clear that it was this game he had marked on his calender heading into the season.

All week during practice Londen Fryar, Tim Hiller and Brandon West refused to talk about Central Michigan coming up after Buffalo. Now that they have survived Buffalo, only Central Michigan remains in front of them.

The focus is now squarely on the Broncos most bitter rival. Get ready for one heck of a rivalry week.

The Broncos hope the game ends like 2005 did:
